Our home is Manchester’s LGBT+ Centre, based on Sidney Street in the heart of the city.
Following years of fundraising, which saw a massive £2.4M raised from donors, including The Big Lottery Reaching Communities Fund, Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Manchester City Council, other major trusts and foundations and donations from the public, in 2020 we said a fond farewell to the centre that had been in continuous use for the last three decades. In its spot, the building of our purpose-built centre began.
The centre was rebuilt to meet the needs of our growing charity and the needs of the wider LGBT+ population.
Whilst the building is glistening in the Sun on the outside, there is still lots of work happening inside to get the new centre ready. From September onwards, community groups and some of our LGBT+ youth groups will begin using the space, and we hope to be open to everyone from March 2022 onwards!
The centre will feature a large community room, a well-equipped kitchen suitable for commercial use, a library and a city-centre roof garden. We will continue to support LGBT+ people from Manchester and beyond with a wide range of free and inclusive, support services, community opportunities and events.
Meanwhile, our ‘home’ is portable and virtual! We are delivering many of our services online and in-person at various other locations. We continue to run LGBT+ youth groups, provide 1-2-1 support, offer outreach, and work in the community, youth spaces and schools, going to where young people need us.
