Ali Hanbury

I am a professionally qualified youth and community worker and have been working in local
authority and charity settings since 2006. I currently work for The Proud Trust where I manage the
LGBT+ Centre in Manchester and deliver the nationally recognised LGBT+ inclusive programme,
Sexuality aGender.

As a working-class, Welsh lesbian I am proud to have gained a Master’s Degree in
Education and Society from Manchester Metropolitan University, and a PhD in Sociology from
Lancaster University. I continue to collaborate with Universities through research projects and
publications, most recently working as an advisor to a NIHR-funded project looking at LGBTQ+ young
people’s mental health (2019-2022).

When I am not using my charity work and academic insight to get stuff done, I enjoying running, acrobalance, and red wine.
