Liv Ouwehand

I’ve recently moved from London to Manchester and am the Trafford group’s assistant youth worker.

Who are my LGBT heroes? I don’t tend to have heroes but I’m so glad for the work done by groups like ACT UP, the Lesbian Avengers, LGSM (the original Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners, and the more recent Lesbians and Gays Support the Migrants) and Sisters Uncut. All of them have made – and are making – this world that bit more liveable.

And all those about whom the final line of Middlemarch sings true:
‘But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.’

What piece of household furniture would I be? I’d have to be a self-closing cupboard drawer.
