Volunteer with us
Why Volunteer for an LGBTQ+ Young People's Charity?

Volunteers are a vital part of The Proud Trust’s history, present and future. Volunteer posts can be short or long-term and can involve a variety of tasks from youth work and mentoring to resource creation and website development.
Whatever your skills and background, there could be a perfect way for you to volunteer for LGBTQ+ young people’s charity, The Proud Trust.
Current Volunteering Opportunities
We are currently recruiting for a number of volunteer roles at The Proud Trust, to help us in our work supporting LGBTQ+ young people and the wider community. There is a wide range of opportunities (some based in Manchester, others online), so if you want to get involved, we would be very happy to hear from you!
Even if these current roles don’t quite fit, you can still register your interest in future opportunities by filling in the Expression of Interest form and we will be in touch when new opportunities come up.
Youth Work Volunteers
Youth Work Volunteers support our group sessions, helping to ensure that we provide safe, inspiring and fun spaces for LGBTQ+ young people to meet one another and be themselves. Working alongside Youth Workers, they attend a group weekly to assist with its activities and provide support to the young people attending.
Trustees
Our board of trustees bring a wide ranging set of skills, knowledge and experience that help us to ensure that the work we’re doing best serves LGBTQ+ young people, those supporting them, and the wider LGBTQ+ community. Trustees are responsible for providing appropriate oversight, governance and leadership to The Proud Trust in the pursuit of its strategies to fulfil its charitable purposes. Trustees will evaluate the performance of the leadership team in meeting agreed goals and objectives and monitor the reporting of performance in key areas.
LGBTQ+ Mentors
Our mentors are LGBTQ+ role models who meet 1:1 with a young person (online) to offer listening, support and signposting, and help them to meet the goals that are important to them.
Education Advisory Board
Our Education Advisory Board volunteers help us understand the barriers facing LGBTQ+ staff, family and students. They also help us to ensure our educational resources align with best practice, and guide us as to the impact of any new guidance and legislation on their settings.
The Proud Place Community Centre Committee
The Proud Place Committee supports The Proud Trust in its role as custodian of The Proud Place. It will shape a new strategy aimed at increasing awareness of the centre and maximising its positive impact on the local LGBTQ+ community, whilst ensuring that accessibility and safety remain at the core of all its activity. Committee members also provide practical support to events and act as ambassadors of The Proud Place.
How To Apply
Take a look at each role and if you’re interested, simply fill in our quick Expression of Interest form. This should take you no longer than 20-30 minutes to complete; you don’t need to write long answers, we just want to get an idea of who you are and why you’re interested in volunteering.
Once we have your form, we will then be in touch to let you know about the next steps; for some roles this may just be an informal chat with one of our team, for other roles we may invite applicants to interview.
