Guidance Documents by Other Organisations

Trans Inclusive Residentials

Our friends at Gendered Intelligence have released new guidance to support youth and community organisations, and staff in educational settings, to run residentials that are inclusive of young trans people. Gendered Intelligence’s youth work team has been running residentials for young trans, including non-binary, people for over 10 years, and they have developed expert knowledge in supporting young trans people from this decade of work.

The 24-page guidance includes strategies for residentials that prioritise the physical and emotional safety of every young person, centre consent and avoid reinforcing gender stereotypes. It covers a wide range of areas from changing facilities and sleeping arrangements to outdoor activities and residentials abroad. It also provides guidance on supporting and how to support young people once the residential has come to an end.

This toolkit provides information and guidance to schools and college on how to more effectively support trans, non-binary and gender questioning pupils and students, and prevent transphobia.

  • Why are there no or few BAME trans people in my group?
  • Why are there no or few BAME volunteers or workers in my organisation?
  • How can I support a BAME trans person who attends my group?
