We will also help you by providing a detailed guide to setting up your club, complimentary training, and ongoing support from The Proud Trust whenever you need it.

For more information on what is included in your subscription, please explore the topics below.

Some weeks I felt that I wasn't doing enough to make the club as engaging as it should be. That all changed when I signed up for the LGBT+ Groups in Schools Alliance... I get a weekly email, with activities planned, and suggested discussion relevant to current topics. We still have ongoing projects and plans within school, but it takes the stress out of my week knowing that I can provide something that will engage students and get them excited about being a part of such an amazing and supportive community. The LGBT+ Groups in Schools Alliance is a subscription service.

Loads of school and college staff are working hard to provide a meaningful group space in their school or college for LGBT+ students and allies, but we know how busy school and college staff are! So this service provides you with all the resources you need to run an engaging, energetic and empowering LGBT+ group in your school or college.

  • Resources – You will receive a digital copy of our ‘How to Start an LGBT+ Group in a School’ guide to support you in setting up your group, and accompanying PowerPoint slides for all weekly activities.
  • Training – You will be entitled to a complimentary place on a Proud Trust online training course of your choice to support you in developing your skills.
  • Support – Ongoing telephone and email support from The Proud Trust is available whenever you need it.

As well as saving you precious time, joining the LGBT+ Groups in Schools Alliance also has the following benefits:

  • LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, plus other related identities such as pansexual, asexual, non-binary, etc) young people really benefit from having a group in school where they feel supported to be themselves and express their pride. LGBT+ clubs can be a great place to make friends, celebrate diversity, learn from each other, and discuss topical issues in a safe and welcoming environment. These groups can also develop confidence and leadership skills as members can raise awareness of issues that are important to them and advocate for equality in their environments.
  • Ofsted are looking for positive LGBT+ inclusion and visibility across the school, along with evidence of how LGBT+ young people are being supported.
  • The Equality Act 2010 requires you to meet the needs of all students, including those who are LGBT+.
  • Creating schools where students feel safe can improve life chances. A growing body of evidence has found that students in schools with GSAs (LGBT+ (and allies) groups) report lower levels of bullying, higher attendance, and better mental health outcomes.
  • Morally, ensuring there is a safe space for LGBT+ young people where they feel heard and validated is the right thing to do!
