Training Courses
We listen to the experiences of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans young people that access our LGBTQ+ youth groups and use this information to directly inform our training courses. Below you can find details of our LGBTQ+ awareness training offer for professionals. Any of these courses can be delivered in-person or online.

90 Minute Courses
Our 90 minute ‘introductory’ courses are designed to give a brief overview of LGBTQ+ awareness. Beyond these introductory courses we have ‘additional’ courses that will provide more practical or in-depth explorations of LGBTQ+ inclusion. It is not recommended to attend one of our ‘additional’ courses without having completed one of our basic courses first or buying them in a bundle. Introductory Courses

A 90 minute session that provides a brief overview of LGBTQ+ identities, including appropriate and current language and terminology. It also provides an opportunity to have your questions answered by our expert trainers and offers signposting to useful resources. This session can only cover the very basics. For more comprehensive learning, please see our other courses.

An interactive 90 minute session that will:
- Cover some of the popular and appropriate terminology used to describe different gender identities.
- Consider the visibility of different kinds of identities, and the impact of this.
- Explore the common myths and misconceptions about gender and trans identities.
- Begin to identify the ways in which you can make your practice more inclusive.
- Offer you signposting to useful resources and services.
This course is a focus on gender identity only (the T bit of LGBTQ+). For a discussion around sexual orientation, please see our other course “Introduction to Sexual Orientation Awareness”.

An interactive 90 minute session that will:
- Cover some of the popular and appropriate terminology used to describe different sexual orientations.
- Consider the visibility of different kinds of identities, and the impact of this.
- Explore the common myths and misconceptions around different sexual orientations.
- Help you identify the ways in which you can make your practice more inclusive.
- Offer you signposting to useful resources and services.
This course is a focus on sexual orientation only (the LGB bit of LGBTQ+). For a discussion around gender identity, please see our other course “Introduction to Trans Awareness”.
Additional Courses

An interactive 90 minute session that will build on the basics of LGBTQ+ awareness. This course can look at LGBTQ+ inclusion or focus in on trans inclusion specifically. It will:
- Further develop your understanding of LGBTQ+/trans identities, people, and their experiences.
- Highlight the everyday challenges that are faced by LGBTQ+/trans young people, and the impact of this.
- Identify the legal, statutory and moral responsibilities that organisations have with regards to supporting LGBTQ+/trans young people.
- Help you to identity ways to make your practice and organisation inclusive and accessible for LGBTQ+/trans young people, giving you confidence to ask the right questions.
- Offer practical advice, support, signposting and useful resources for organisations working with LGBTQ+/trans young people.
This course should only be booked in conjunction with one of our ‘introductory’ courses. They can be delivered separately or together as a 3 hour session.

A 90 minute training session that will build on the basics of trans awareness. It will:
- Empower schools to create an environment where trans young people feel welcome, safe, and supported, and are able to thrive.
- Explore the benefits of taking a positive and proactive whole-school approach to trans inclusion.
- Provide clear advice on how to best approach practical considerations that arise in supporting trans young people in schools.
- Explore the legal context in which trans inclusion is situated.
To get the most out of this session it is strongly recommended that it is combined with an Introduction to Trans Awareness session. These can be delivered separately or together as a 3 hour session.

An interactive 90 minute session that will build on the basics of LGBTQ+ awareness and will:
- Explore the benefits of delivering an LGBTQ+ inclusive curriculum for your students and your school.
- Help you identify the ways in which you can make your practice more inclusive.
- Identify the policies, guidance and laws that support you in delivering an LGBTQ+ inclusive curriculum.
- Discover useful strategies in confidently and consistently recognising, challenging and reporting LGBTQphobia.
- Provide some understanding and suggestions as to how we can change the language we use around relationships and gender to be more inclusive.
- Showcase free resources that can support you in delivering LGBTQ+ inclusive lessons.
This course is especially useful for schools working towards their Rainbow Flag Award. To get the most out of this session it is strongly recommended that it is combined with at least one of our basic awareness courses. These can be delivered separately or together as a 3 hour session.
Half Day Courses (3 Hours)
3-hour Bundles
Our 90 minute training sessions can be booked together as a 3 hour session or delivered separately as two 90 minute sessions. Below are our recommended and most common bundles for a more comprehensive exploration of LGBTQ+/trans inclusion. However if you would like to discuss booking a different combination of our 90 minute courses get in touch.

A half day (3 hour) course that will help practitioners to become more LGBTQ+ inclusive. It combines our ‘Whistlestop LGBTQ+ Awareness’ session with our ‘Supporting LGBTQ+ Young People’ session providing an introduction to LGBTQ+ identities offering an introduction to LGBTQ+ identities and the surrounding terminology, and encouraging participants to explore what LGBTQ+ inclusion might look like in their setting. This bundle is perfect for any professionals working with young people.

A half day (3 hour) course with a focus on trans inclusion. It combines our ‘Introduction to Trans Awareness’ session with our ‘Supporting Trans (Including Non-Binary) Young People’ session providing an introduction to trans identities and the surrounding terminology, and encouraging participants to explore what trans inclusion might look like in their setting. This bundle is perfect for any professionals working with young people.

A half day (3 hour) course with a focus on trans inclusion in schools. It combines our ‘Introduction to Trans Awareness’ session with our ‘Practical Trans Inclusion in Schools’ session providing an introduction to trans identities and the surrounding terminology, and giving schools the confidence they need to support trans young people and develop a trans inclusive environment.

Additional 3-hour Courses
Stand-alone 3-hour training courses that cater to more specific training needs for professionals who work with young people.

This 3-hour training session is designed to enable participants to feel confident safeguarding LGBTQ+ young people by understanding additional risks LGBTQ+ young people might face and how best to respond to potential concerns.
After completing this course participants will:
- Have a basic awareness of up-to-date LGBTQ+ terminology
- Understand what Safeguarding is
- Understand additional risks LGBTQ+ young people can face
- Identify best practice in a variety of scenarios involving LGBTQ+ young people
- Be able to report a safeguarding incident in an LGBTQ+ inclusive way
Full Day (6 Hours)

A one-day training course, that will help practitioners to become more LGBTQ+ inclusive (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, plus other related identities), by:
- Offering a deep exploration and explanation of current appropriate terminology across a range of identities;
- Giving real life examples of the experiences of LGBTQ+ young people, and those from LGBTQ+ families;
- Giving the skills, tools and knowledge to confidently and consistently recognise, challenge and prevent LGBTQphobic language and behaviours;
- Discussing how to meet the legal, Ofsted (if you’re a school) and moral obligations to do LGBTQ+ inclusive work;
- Showcasing a series of age-appropriate and recommended resources for creating LGBTQ+ inclusive lessons or sessions, spaces and settings.
- Action planning for your organisation.
