Why not explore our word of the day:

The Proud Trust’s CEO Lisa Harvey-Nebil is excited to announce the name for Manchester’s rebuilt LGBT+ Community Centre on Sidney Street.

Introducing ‘The Proud Place’ – Manchester’s LGBT+ Community Centre.

Lisa says: “It’s an honour for The Proud Trust to take care of such an important building on behalf of Manchester’s LGBT+ Community and we’re excited for this next chapter in our history. We hope it continues to be a place of support, warmth and joy for many more LGBT+ people. We can’t wait to welcome you all to The Proud Place when the building launches later this year!” Based in the heart of the city on Sidney Street, The Proud Place will house our growing charity, and serve as a community hub for the wider LGBT+ population across Greater Manchester and beyond.

Following years of fundraising, a massive £2.4M was raised from supportive donors, including, Manchester City Council, The Big Lottery Reaching Communities Fund, Greater Manchester Combined Authority, major trusts and foundations and donations from the public. We couldn’t have realised this transformation without them, and it’s been an epic journey.

In 2020 we said a fond farewell to the centre that had been our home for over 30 years. Our shiny new gold building, The Proud Place, nestles in the very same spot. The purpose-built centre will enable us and our partners to support more LGBT+ people with a wide range of free, inclusive youth projects, support services, community opportunities, events and more.

Dr Carl Austin-Behan OBE DL , LGBTQ+ Advisor to the Mayor of Greater Manchester,  “Naming the centre has been a collaboration between young people, the community, stakeholders and the board of trustees. We’ve come up with a name that is supportive of the work and support services that The Proud Trust delivers, in a safe space which is inclusive for everybody, enriching so many lives.  I feel that “The Proud Place” is very fitting, for such a beautiful new building for all our LGBTQ+ Community to feel welcome.”
